Author Biography

I am a multi-genre writer who wrote eighteen books to date.
I did not choose writing as a career.
My first career was banking.
After I retired as a Commercial Area Credit Manager of one of the leading banks in the Caribbean, I worked in the Insurance Industry where I also excelled.
I wrote my first book after my bout with cancer and near death experience.
My purpose for writing, 'I am Cancer Free' was to tell persons in similar situations that cancer does not have to be a death sentence.
'I am Cancer Free' won the award for Best Non-fiction from Mc Grath House Book Awards in 2016.

My memoir, 'My Life as a Banker: A Life Worth Living' was voted second in the category Best Bio/memoirs in the SIBA Awards by Metamorph's Publishing in 2016.
I am the author of the science fiction series Zeeka Chronicles: Revenge of Zeeka, which placed third in the category Best Science Fiction in SIBA Awards 2017.
I wrote 'How to Write for Success" because I wanted to help new and aspiring authors to create award winning books. I love to share my knowledge with others. I am available on social media.

Author Brenda Mohammed gives the reader valuable nuggets of truth to use within their own writing career in How To Write For Success. There is a brief introduction listing the various books the author has written and her ability to encompass different types of literature. The purpose of this book is to show readers that the author has a passion to help other readers fulfill their lifelong dream of writing their own book. I really appreciated the personal stories on how the author writes her own material and how important research is, even before one begins to write. She also lists several Facebook groups she has joined to help promote both her material and herself as an author.

One of the best statements I appreciated within this book is: “A book description is your sales pages. It will sell your book. Make sure it is engaging and can turn a browse into a buy.” This is great and valuable information for a writer to understand. There is also listed the importance of copyrighting the material, getting an ISBN number, etc. Whoever gets the ISBN number is considered the publisher. The author has the choice of getting their own or letting the publisher get it for them. Pre-orders are very important to an author. Creating excitement before the book is even printed is huge. There are also many listed things that one can do following publication. Branding yourself is also very important. People must know about you and your material, how to find it and consider reading it. I really enjoyed all the links provided in the e-book, allowing the reader to go to various publishers, writing aids, Facebook groups, etc. This is an asset to any writer at any level, given the detailed information, but for the beginner it is a must-have!

This book is an encouragement for all of us. It shows that no matter what the tasks may be, we can concur it. I especially liked the part where Mohammed wrote that we are all winners. This book not only reveals secrets about how to be successful but it's filled with heart and a work of love. Great advice from someone who knows.

It gives you everything you could want to become an author! Wow. Bravo. I wish it had been around when I started.

I was fortunate to receive a special preview of this book. There are many 'how to write' books out there, but I don't think you will find many as detailed as this one. Each author will have a process, and I think there is something to be said for how it was done in the old days. Think about Jane Austen and her writing desk, or Stephen King and his creaky old typewriter.

Writing a book on a computer requires a different skill set and it is here that the author excels, showing the novice to more experienced writers how they may structure their book, fine-tuning it with excellent sections on character development, plot structure and more.

At 156 pages, it is not a quick read - one needs to absorb the information before moving on. Successive re-reads would be recommended, otherwise, you won't know the material well enough.

A welcome addition to the many 'how to books' out there and one that deserves to do well in its own right.

This book, by experienced author Brenda Mohammed, is an excellent 101 for any aspiring author particularly those who choose to self-publish.

I say 101, but there are things within the pages that contain nuggets of information even for the more experienced self-published author.

It is a 101 really as it does not pretend, and I'm sure it wasn't the author's intention, for it to be a full-blown treatise on writing, publishing and marketing your book. But she does cover all the essentials.

It should be essential reading for all aspiring authors and is packed full of sound advice.

The courage and creativity of writing a book is only surpassed by the eager willingness of those more experienced than we to take the time to offer their wisdom. I say to all who have something to say, if you aspire to say it, then say it well, but take the time to Learn from others who have not only experienced success but are willing to teach. This book offers such valuable information for all of us experienced or not! Thank you Brenda!

How to write for Success: Best Writing Advice I Received" is the eighteenth Book written by Brenda Mohammed. Reading this book shows me the great intelligence possessed by Brenda. She has a masterly command of the English Language and all the advice she has given will be of benefit to readers and writers of any genre. I love how she explains the use of power words and leaving out those unnecessary words that make reading become boring. Use of dialogue and use of action words, character and plot building are also important especially the way she advises to use them in writing. Brenda's skill on the computer is also remarkable and her advice would help new writers to market their books. If you are now getting into writing read this book before you begin. The ideas generated will be of great help to you as Brenda uses her own experiences as she said -from her trials and errors in her writing journey. You will learn a lot from the Questions and Answers Segment of the book. I did."

A Must Have

Having read a couple of Mohammed’s books, I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed in this self-help book, and I was not. The book covers the gamut on the art of writing, the formulation of an idea for a book, to proofreading, and eventual marketing of his/her book. This is an excellent book for anyone who finds him/herself contemplating becoming a writer. With Mohammed’s book in hand, there should be little, if any, room for error. I highly recommend.

This is a great read for the new author. It covers all the bases from before you write your book until after you have finished it. The author gives you plenty of links to follow through with her suggestions. Those who have published already will find useful information, too.

Brenda Mohammed’s experience as a multi-genre author places her in a great position to write this book. With a wealth of experience to call on she shares her knowledge with the reader in an easy to understand, straightforward style. On the face of it, self-publishing is easy, but it is far more complex than that and to make progress you need a clear understanding of the publishing process. How To Write For Success: Best Writing Advice I Received offers you that understanding. It is also invaluable as a go- to book whenever you are short of ideas or looking for clarity on a publishing issue. Without doubt, this book is a valuable addition to any writer or publisher’s library.

A Must Read for Aspiring Writers
As an aspiring author, this book is a must-read. It was very helpful and gave me very usable instructions to navigate successfully through the self-publishing process.
Well done!

This book covers everything to do with book production: writing, promoting your book and then marketing it. It's very comprehensive in what it covers, but all based on practical experience. For example, a writing suggestion for fiction writing is to start with the antagonist because the antagonist is the obstacle to the hero's goal. Improve nonfiction by using descriptive settings, dialogue and characters. Use sticky notes over your working space to remind you who your target readers are while you're writing.
Categories and Metadata are covered as well as book covers, book descriptions and book reviews.
Of most help to me were the various links to useful sites, that keep changing with the months, and Brenda Mohammed is particularly generous with sharing those. Do you know what BLASTY is? And EZINE? Well I'll let you read the book for the answers.
Her reminders to keep writing are constant: "Never give up. Reach for the sky" and "There is no such thing as failure".
I highly recommend this book to both new writers and experienced ones.
