Author Biography

Children and the love of children's literature have played an integral role in my life. My first picture book entitled, WHERE IS SIMON, SANDY? is based on a true story of a little donkey that wouldn't quit. It has received The Mom's Gold Choice Award for excellence in children's literature and it won finalist for picture book category from the Indie Awards for excellence.
My memoir, FIFTY CENTS AN HOUR or My Life According to Me, is a series of humorous tales from my childhood, growing up in a large Irish Catholic family on West 158 St. in Cleveland, Ohio.
My newest novel, HURRICANE MIA, A Caribbean Adventure, is a stirring tale of a young girl, whose mother is seriously ill. Mia, her younger brother, Jack, and their new friend, Neisha, find themselves on an adventure of a lifetime in search of 'the tea that cures everything'.
And coming soon, CHARLEY!, the story of an orphaned boy from Boston who sings his way into a dairy farming family in the heartland of rural Maine.
Donna is a graduate of Ohio State University and holds a Masters Degree in Special Education from Lesley University.

I have an eight year old who absolutely, positively LOVES to read, and he loves adventure, so picking this book to review was a double bonus for me-and for him! It's the perfect chapter book. It's easy to read, and it's definitely full of adventure and great lessons!

Just like adventurous Mia, my eight year old doesn't always think things through first, even with his little brother and his friends around. Through Hurricane Mia, a story with a fantastic plot and sweet, lovable characters, Donna Seim creates an amazing children's book. It's full of lessons to be learned, full of that typical adventure that kids love so much, and some lessons on dealing with hard, sad times in one’s life. Mia, her brother Jack, and her new Caribbean friend Neisha makes the story pop and come to life for the kids.

This is a 5 star young reader’s book that should be in every library, every classroom, and every home that has a young reader in it. There is an adventure in the aquatic form, but it's got some really amazing lessons on thinking before acting, and sadness, that kids can benefit from. Highly recommended!
