There is magic in the air. It’s almost Christmas. The North Pole elves are busy and Santa is double checking his lists. The reindeer are anxious for the night in the sky, a whirl around the world. And to be a child, filled with dreams on that special night. What if a dream wasn’t a dream but a sparkle of Santa’s magic? What if a child dreaming of being one of Santa’s reindeer really did enjoy the adventure? So many what if’s, but in the end, it is just the beginning of another magical Christmas morning, full of the smells and sounds of the celebration and the tinkling bells of reindeer in the distance and a faint voice calling out, “Ho ho ho.”

Christopher P. Stanley’s charming picture book story, I Dreamed I Was A Reindeer, adds a little spice to the magic of Christmas. For what child who still believes in Santa doesn’t wish to visit him at the North Pole? Or, better yet, ride in his sleigh all around the world on Christmas Eve? Or even be one of his reindeer and help pull his sleigh? For what is Christmas without the magic of dreams? The author tells the story in rhyming verse with sweet illustrations to carry the story along. And it teaches a valuable lesson that the joy and magic of Christmas is not just in the receiving, but also in the giving and sharing. This book would make a great addition to any child’s library of Christmas stories. It’s a story that truly sparkles with the magic of Christmas.
