Most adults in the US know about World War II. But how many know about the after-effects of World War II on the children of Germany? Ingrid McCarthy was a young child in Germany at the end of the war. In I Stood Among the Ruins and Cried, she shares her childhood living among the ruins left behind after the bombs. Her city was mostly destroyed by Allied bombers, but the citizens who survived remained to rebuild the city. Ingrid’s story is fascinating and keeps you wanting more. If you have ever been curious about post-war Germany and its culture, your questions will all be answered. This book will enlighten and entertain you as Ingrid had some absolutely harrowing and interesting experiences as she grew up.
