Shona Forrester is determined to make her business a success. However, her carefully planned future is turned upside down by events she never could have imagined. Rick seems to be part of the equation for a happy life, but is he? I really liked the premise of If...: Second Chance by Jackie Mae. A lot of people can relate to Shona. Trying to break out on your own and start your own business only to have everything crumble around you. Having people around you not wanting to take responsibility for their actions (especially the lying, cheating, no good soon to be ex-fiancé). Being on the brink of financial disaster and having to make tough decisions. Unfortunately, a lot of people will be able to relate to that feeling.

But most people also fantasize about winning the lottery. How everything can be made right with five matching numbers. This tale talked about the darker side of winning the lottery and what happens to a person and their relationships after they come into money. It is amazing how people that you thought loved and trusted you will turn on you in a heartbeat if you don't give them the money they think they deserve for being your friend, or buying you lunch once ten years ago, or sticking by you when no one else would. I felt so bad for Shona because, even though she had money all of a sudden, she didn't have anyone else to share that joy with. She immediately wanted to leave town and never see her family and friends again, which I thought was one of the saddest parts of this story. Nicely done!
