Dark Times is the second book in the Immortal Magic series by B. J. Fournier. The story of Amber continues as she faces an uncertain future for herself and her family. She and Bobby are hiding from the world as Jason and Jennifer in Newport. This witch and vampire duo is raising their young daughter Jayde away from the tension between witches and vampires. They are looking for peace but trouble is dogging their every step. They have to think about little Jayde before they can make any decision. Running away is not an option anymore, especially now that Drecard is after them. Plus, the tussle between vampires and witches is at a boiling point. Both sides are planning the demise of the other. But, with evil and darkness approaching, no one is safe, be they human, witch, or vampire. What is Amber going to do?
I am amazed at how well structured the chapters are. Each chapter urges the reader to turn the page and search for more. This story was the perfect amalgamation of different genres and B. J. Fournier does justice to each of them. Amber and Bobby are the perfect couple (with their flaws, yes) and they fight like a team. The author introduces tension from the very beginning and lures readers in as the story progresses. There is a chase and a race against time that Amber needs to win. I got an adrenaline rush reading the action sequences and melted at the scenes involving little Jayde. The author plays with the reader’s emotions, hypes them up, and gives them everything they need to be lost in Dark Times. Reading this book is a wonderful experience, one that I will remember for a long time.
