In His Service, Love Always, Ms. Jackson is an inspirational and insightful book on purpose and love, a book for those who want to make a difference. From the opening pages, author Okisha Jackson states: “I wrote this letter because this world is a cold and mean place. There are people who want to make a difference. That desire to live a life of purpose and be remembered for bringing out the best in others, but don’t know where to begin.” In her inimitable style, the author explores the depths of the human heart, how to avoid the hypocrisy of the religiosity of our world, and shares insights and stories that explain what it means and feels like to be purpose-driven, to live for others, to do meaningful work — like her grandmother — and to leave a positive legacy for humanity.

This book is a quick read that can be finished within a few hours, but it is not the kind of book to rush through, because it is filled with passages and insightful points to ponder about life. The work is written in an epistolary style that gets readers engaged, because the author addresses them. The author speaks as though she is making journal entries and her voice comes across like that of a friend inviting you into an exciting adventure. The writing is simple, conversational, and engaging, and readers will enjoy the confidence with which the author shares her views on life, drawing inspiration from personal stories that are both thought provoking and entertaining. In His Service, Love Always, Ms. Jackson is a meaningful offering that invites readers to rethink the way they live their lives. It’s packed with wisdom, love, and insight. One of those books you read and want to pass on.

In His Service, Love Always, Ms. Jackson by Okisha Jackson contains the author’s experiences over a period of time arranged in chronological order. The aim of sharing the accounts is to inspire the reader to effect change in themselves and others through showing and practicing acts of love. Jackson shares everyday accounts regarding her faith, her work and her interaction with her family. She shares the struggles she has had to endure and how acts of kindness from other people helped her while she was in dire need. The content also includes information on prayer, personal healing and the importance of respecting commitments. Mental health and its role in ensuring overall vitality are also explored. Biblical passages supporting each chapter’s content are also included. Every day presented in the book is different and brings along a different lesson. Still, the emphasis largely is on loving others.

While most of the stories in Okisha Jackson’s book, In His Service, Love Always, Ms. Jackson, stem from normal life experiences, the kindness or the lack of compassion shown by the characters in the book provide crucial learning points. They show how love can transform, inspire and change someone else’s life. Jackson shares the highs and lows that she has experienced in the spheres of finance, work and her relationship with her family. Through her openness and the revelation of parts of her life, I was able to learn. Some of what I took away largely revolves around loving myself and people, as well as guarding my heart. I liked that Jackson speaks of her flaws and uses them to offer advice and alternative ways of approaching issues and also to inspire.
