To say Carson was confused is an understatement. In the novel In Time For Christmas by Casi McLean, someone had tried to kill her, she was badly wounded, and she had no idea where she was. She barely knew who she was. To top it off, Piers, the man she met bathing at the waterfall, was anything but what she expected. His only means of transportation was on horseback, he had no idea what a phone or a cell phone was or even the concept of electricity and running water. When they met, he was as baffled by her as she was by him. Carson then discovered that she was in the year 1858, in the southern states where slavery was still common practice and she, a doctor from the future, was totally out of her depth. Or was she? A chance to return to her own time, to reconnect with her life, leaves her more confused than ever and all she wants is to go home for Christmas. But where is home? In the past or in the future?

Casi McLean’s romance novel, In Time For Christmas, is a comfort read with a dash of fantasy and time travel. The author draws the reader into the story with a compelling introduction, cleverly setting the stage to explain Carson’s obvious state of confusion. The plot develops as romance blossoms and Carson remarkably finds herself drawn into this simpler life. But there continues to be a pull from the future, to explain who she once was and what her roots were. This adds conflict and multiple unexpected tangents as characters evolve and develop, luring the reader deeper into the story. Dialogue and character development are well executed and the plot will keep the reader’s attention right to the last page. Excellent from beginning to end.
