Joytime: 31 Devotions for Women with Guided Journaling by Dr. Joy Greene is a creative motivational tool that is touched with scripture throughout. It has an uplifting tonal property that emanates from the pages, making the reader feel elevated toward a higher power, whether that be God or just a feeling of being more in touch with one’s self. One of the quotes that particularly resonated with me was on page 30: “God is our anchor when the storms of life surround us. When the wind and waves come crashing in, God is there…holding us in place.” This quote, and there are many like it in this book, are gifts to the body, mind, and soul.

Dr. Joy Greene’s Joytime motivated me to reflect on the past, but not to be buried by it. This book will be a place of respite for women who need an outlet to get in touch with themselves, or even to find themselves for the very first time. Greene acts like a compass, directing the reader where they need to go to find the lost treasure within themselves. Although it does specifically mention women in the title, I can honestly say that anyone would be able to read and journal and feel the added benefit it would bring to their lives. This is a book for the human soul, and though we are all flawed there is always redemption.
