Jupons and the Dagger of Zurr by Prerna Kumar is a spellbinding young adult fantasy with exciting twists, compelling characters, and an age-old conflict. Meet Tiya and Sid who have always felt different. They are different and they call themselves the Jupons. But they are not the only ones, because there are more like them and something startling is happening — there is a sinister, dark, and powerful evil after them, a power that has existed since time immemorial. This power seeks to destroy the Jupons and each day brings more horrific revelations. Follow Tiya and the other teenagers as they navigate a complicated world, seeking answers while danger looms ahead. Can they locate the Dagger of Zurr before the night of the third moon eclipse, the impending time of war?

Prerna Kumar is a great storyteller and the descriptive power of the prose gets a strong hold on the reader from the very first page. I enjoyed the images the author evokes from the very opening of the narrative, the dialogues that are crafted to enhance the development of themes, character, and plot. the dialogues are measured with consideration to the balance in the narrative. The characters are elaborately developed and readers will enjoy watching them as they face challenges in their relationships and try to understand who they are and what tools they have to beat a powerful evil. Jupons and the Dagger of Zurr is ingeniously plotted, featuring a conflict that is phenomenal, excellent prose, and characters that feel as good as those in I Am Number Four. Jupons and the Dagger of Zurr is engrossing, cinematic, and hugely entertaining.
