Kaffir Deified by David Colin is a literary novel that incorporates aspects of magical realism to explore the human condition through a wide array of circumstances. Dumare is a Liberian philosopher who was tricked into coming to America and forced into a life of servitude by his wicked and corrupt employer, John Smith, a.k.a. Canio Serrano. Feeling dejected by the betrayal of his American dream and the apathetic attitude of New Yorkers, Dumare roams the streets of Manhattan when suddenly he finds himself empowered by a force far beyond what his mortal self was capable of. As an intuitive Behaviorist, Dumare is determined to take advantage of the situation and sets off to explore the human condition with his newfound powers in Africa, the land where humankind originated.

Kaffir Deified is a thought-provoking work that will appeal to literary analysts and readers interested in African culture alike. Author David Colin provides plenty of social commentary and insight into the human condition through the lens of a Being, who sets out to pursue a journey of self-discovery and seek the true meaning of life via his travels throughout the continent of Africa. Dumare is a complex protagonist, with contradicting layers to his personality that make him feel human despite his supernatural abilities. While traveling through multiple African nations, he seeks tranquility of mind and self, yet can't help lashing out in anger every time he faces an adversary. Kaffir Deified is a unique take on the nature of humanity. Recommended.
