Eleven year old Kate and Sidney, one of the Camp Club Girls, take on vicious rumors about a Philadelphia baseball player who just happens to be the father of one of their friends. Kate's father is an inventor who has given her many high-tech devices so that she and her friends can solve the puzzle of the rumor mill that is threatening the reputation of the Philly's player.

Kate gets the Camp Girls involved and they all do their part to solve the mystery. Even for young readers, the plot development is somewhat predictable but it is well written and the younger readers of chapter books will like the story. At times, it is a bit preachy but, being a Christian-based story, it does fit well into the overall plot. The story probably underestimates the intelligence of the older readers but, all in all, a lovely read.
