Jaida Martin is a detective who is trying to solve the biggest case in her life, finding out the identity of her biological mother. In the process, she stumbles upon a multimillion dollar conspiracy and her life is in danger. She uncovers the dark past of a prominent political figure who has also played an important role in her life. Jaida is a person who cannot let go of her past and this has affected her ability to love. As the story continues, we find out that she is a married woman who has walked out on her husband. When her husband Spencer enters her life again, Jaida arrives at a cross roads and now she has to decide which path to take.
In "Kiss Me Awake", Julie Myomer tells the story of a young female detective who is trying to find herself as she faces what is probably the most important case in her professional life. The plot has the elements of suspense, mystery, drama, romance and forgiveness. These elements are successfully woven together into a coherent whole. And this makes the story interesting and compelling at the same time. Although I find the character of Spencer a bit under-developed, it does not stop me from enjoying the novel. Julie Myomer exposes some questions about life but she also attempts to provide some answers. The narrative is an emotional portrayal of a woman who is alienated from a society where she feels she is an outsider. This is a feeling that many of us may have gone through in our own lives. I highly recommend this book!
