Lacy is a young Indian girl, living on the Umatilla Reservation in Pendleton, Oregon, wanting to live and work off the reservation. Her father, Joe, believes in the old ways and has picked out a future Indian chief for her to marry. Lacy does not love him or even like him and knows that this is not the life she was meant to live. She sneaks off in the middle of the night and finds work in Pendleton, and immediately meets our old friends Aundy, Caterina and Ilsa, who willing and lovingly watch over her. Grant Hill is the banker of Pendleton who has money, a beautiful house, and is wanted by every single girl in town. Grant, however, is waiting for that special girl who will love him for just himself and not his possessions or his wealth, and he finds this with Lacy. There are many family and townspeople obstacles to overcome, which cause trouble for Lacy, but she is stronger than she realizes and works through each problem with her new friends and Grant's help. If I reveal any more than the basics I will ruin the book and it is too good a story for me to do that.

Lacy brings alive the struggle of the American Indian and the western white man. Shanna Hatfield has once again given us a strong fictional historical picture of life in the early 1900s in book 5 of the Pendleton Petticoat series. Lacy is a book of love, compassion, history, friendship, and a sweet and powerful representation of the days of old. The Pendleton Petticoat Series just keeps getting better and better and while each book can stand on its own, it would be a shame for you to miss reading any one of them. Shanna Hatfield is a writer with a tremendous knowledge of how to write a story that pulled me right into the pages of the book and made each character my friend. I urge you to read Lacy because it is a book that is hard to put down.
