When Lady Olivia Farquhar lost her husband due to “the fever” it released her from years of a marriage of terror and abuse. The only way he could hurt and abuse her now was through their son Julian. He granted full custody to his cousin Max claiming she was unfit to be a mother to his only heir. The only way she could ever regain custody of her son was to marry someone upstanding in the community. She has a hard decision to make, should she tell Max the truth and hope he believes her and releases her son back to her. After years of having everyone believe she was a harlot and a less than perfect wife she now has to redeem herself. Nathaniel knows the real truth about her and wants to marry her. Olivia finds him quite repulsive, but he is the only way to get her son back. Except for one little problem; she is now in love with Max. She is being blackmailed into another loveless marriage. Can Max help clear her name and along with her son the three become a family.

This was a very interesting read. The characters for the most part are quite likable. The book seemed a little slow at the beginning, but about halfway through the things finally looked up when she finally discloses her one terrible secret. Before that it had me guessing. All in all I found this to be a nice historical romance.
