Lascivious Luca is the second book in Savage's Buck & Doe series by Anne Marie Citro; a compelling romance with sophisticated characters. Luca Savage is a man destroyed by tragedy; a once-gentle and caring soul, he lost the joy of living after the brutal murder of his father and brother. But all this changes when he encounters Brooklyn, a woman who can’t speak but whose stunning beauty ignites a fire deep within him. She is a woman with a strong sense of self and family and hidden gifts that will surprise. Luca finds her irresistible, but can a woman limited in speech bring meaning to his life?
Lascivious Luca is a story that stands out in its originality and I loved the fact that the romance is between two characters that are somehow broken. Brooklyn is mute, a physical handicap that makes interacting with others a challenge for her. Luca suffers from inner chagrin after a devastating loss. They are both wounded characters, but their humanity makes the story very real and, from the moment they meet, the reader wants to discover what happens to them. Their brokenness is the fodder that feeds the emotional and psychological conflicts of the story. Anne Marie Citro knows how to keep it real and engaging, writing scenes that are focused and exploring areas of life that add depth to the plot. The gorgeous prose combines with the originality in the plot to make for a page-turner. It is deft and balanced, a story that is hugely entertaining.
