Daniel Peyton’s Legacy Of Dragonwand is an epic fantasy following the quest of a young wizard to save his land. Markus sets off from home, looking for a wizard to recommend him for school. Instead, an ancient wizard sends him on a quest to find the legendary dragonwand. Outside his family’s lands, Markus finds out that the wizards of Thendor are being hunted down and imprisoned. In Thendor, a conspiracy is afoot that could spell the destruction of their world. Under the influence of an evil wizard, the king has gone mad and the royal soldiers carry out his questionable orders with zeal. Evil is rising in the land and it is up to Markus and his friends to stop the evil wizard and restore the dragonwand to its rightful place. Though Markus has very little information on how he is going to complete his quest, he won’t give up.
Legacy of Dragonwand follows in the footprints of great epics like Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter in its use of a fantastical magical quest. Daniel Peyton’s main character, Markus, is as pure-hearted and courageous as he is naïve. A symptom of his young age, no doubt. Markus’ character strengths and weaknesses offset the story and give room for the secondary characters to show their strengths and enrich the plot. I loved the vivid dream scenes in this book. I will be looking forward to book two of this series as we explore Markus’ budding romance and the possible explosions between Kiin and Donna.
