Author Biography

Preston Randall was born in Philadelphia but moved to Canada at an early age and currently resides in Victoria, British Columbia. After graduating with a B.Sc. in Biology he pursued an administrative career spanning thirty years, seven of which were spent in the Caribbean. Although always interested in creative writing, it wasn't until after returning to Canada in 2007 that he published his first short story.

A dedicated distance runner, Preston has a personal best of 2:35 in the marathon and completed the Boston Marathon in a respectable 2:47. He now runs for fun and fitness and only competes in the marathon vicariously through the characters in his latest story.

In 2011 Preston joined an online writing community at BookRix.com, and has since received awards in 3 writing competitions including 1st place in a Journalism Writing Challenge, 3rd in an open fiction contest, and 1st again for Flash Fiction (Drabbles). Although known for his humorous characters and descriptions, many of Preston's stories include veiled and not-so-veiled messages regarding serious issues of the day.

Letters I Wish I Had Sent by Preston C. Randall is a hilarious compilation of the sort of correspondence we’ve all wanted to send to one company or another in our lives. Generally, these “letters” are in response to some utterly stupid or absurd claim, instruction, or warning the manufacturer felt obliged to include on the package their product came in. Who among us has not fought the urge to ignore the “Tear Here” instructions on a box top, and rebelliously tear it somewhere else? What about the “Do Not Remove Under Penalty of Law” tags on a new chair or mattress? Don’t you just want to rip that sucker right off? Preston Randall finally had enough, and started writing letters to the guilty parties responsible for such lame instructions or warnings. Not wishing to end up on the wrong end of a lawsuit, or to have a visit from the “Vinnie and Guido” enforcement agents, he wisely has refrained from actually mailing those letters, but instead has compiled them here for our collective enjoyment.

Letters I Wish I Had Sent will have you in stitches at times. At other times you will be shouting, “Yes, yes, yes!” in agreement. My personal favorite is the warning that came on a new iron: “Do not iron clothes while wearing.” I don’t think they would have printed this, if it hadn’t actually happened at least once! Yet the people to whom these warnings are directed reproduce and vote! (Hmmmmm. That explains a LOT!) Until you’ve collected enough of them to fill your own book, enjoy the tongue-in-cheek letters penned by this author.

This is a great short read to have handy when you know you will have a number of brief opportunities to read something. Each two or three page letter is stand-alone entertainment, not dependent upon the preceding or following letters. As such, this is an ideal piece to carry with you.
