The setting is 1972 in the Middle East. Noora Fendil is engaged to be married. Her sister Zaffeera is jealous and deviously plots to take Michel for herself. Zaffeera convinces their father that Noora has dishonored their name. Her father beats her and after drowning her leaves her for dead. Noora’s brother, Nageeb, rescues her and takes her away to nurse her back to health.

Honor killings still takes place in some conservative Muslim families. It is the murder of a family member that has brought dishonor to the family name. This barbaric tradition gives men the right to kill their daughters and wives. It is obvious the author has well researched this topic. She has successfully shed light on this evil practice.

Light Of The Desert is well written there is a theme of forgiveness running throughout this book. The plot is beautifully done. I could not put this book down. It held my interest from the first page to the last. The characters are exquisite. Well done Lucette Walters.
