Emily K. Karlewicz was born in King George, VA, and grew up in an extremely theatrical family. In 2008, she graduated from Shenandoah Conservatory with a BFA in Musical Theatre, and spent three years traveling with the world renowned Missoula Children's Theatre. While on the road, she was inspired by the landscape outside her window, and began writing her first novel, Lightscape. With the encouragement of her husband and mother, she completed Lightscape in less than a year, and is now busy at work writing the second installment in her Lightscape Trilogy.
Emily spends her days reading, writing, and teaching children in the fields of dance, acting, and voice. She lives in Colonial Beach, VA with her husband, 2 children, and a small zoo of pets.

Lightscape is the first installment of a trilogy for young adults by Emily K. Karlewicz. A young orphan girl, Selkie, with an extraordinary talent for drawing, meets Aidan and her world is never the same again. The two fall in love but there is a side to the mysterious Aidan that will soon reveal itself and threaten to shatter the young girl's newfound happiness. There is danger around her and as Aidan's secrets unravel, Selkie's very existence is not only altered but also threatened. Selkie tries to hang on to the promise of a fulfilling relationship but will the shadows lurking in her dreams let her?
Emily K. Karlewicz's Lightscape (The Lightscape Trilogy Book 1) is an engaging love story between a talented orphan and a handsome stranger. As emotions are flying high between the two and Aidan's mysterious life slowly reveals itself, the story's suspense feverishly builds up and it ends in a most unexpected way. This is the reason why Lightscape is a most compelling read. Selkie, one of the main protagonists in the story, is easy to like and love so that when she meets the love of her life, we find ourselves ardently wishing her all the best. Things are not that simple, unfortunately, and she could lose the one thing in life that she has been looking for. Karlewicz writes with a paintbrush and, as such, her creative writing style is both vivid and colorful. I can confidently say that it surely is worth your while to wait for the next installment of The Lightscape Trilogy.
