"Living, Loving and Laughing My Way Through" by Charron Monaye is obviously an emotional dialogue with the reader. Through a bold approach to the highly sentimental arenas of human existence, the poet declares war against the stereotypical ways of living, loving and laughing one's way through. Narrated through the first person perspective, Monaye's poetry generates beauty through simplicity. In the hands of the poet, the mundane issues interlace with philosophy. In talking of living, the poems focus on the strategy of independence. The poet has tried her level best to make her narrator emerge as a spiritual explorer of the diversified curses and bliss of living. The poet's overview of love runs across a wide range of experiences, from common love making to extremely traumatic conditions of infidelity and conflict. Humour, introduced by the poet as the reason for her laughter, is an internal humour, which is subtle and self-satisfying.

Despite being written in the style of free verse, the poems are saturated with lyrical quality. The poet displays her ability to generalize the highly personal occasions of life, so that they gain universal significance. This volume of poems provides a spiritual guideline for those who struggle to mature and to find their own identity through the various absurdities of life. Going through the pages of the book is similar to considering the potentiality to mature. The poet seems to be concerned about how one is reborn to this world, after each experience gained. Moreover, the poems teach the reader not to depend on anyone for living, loving and laughing. Find life, love and happiness within yourself! That seems to be the message of Charron Monaye to her reader.
