Lost Souls of Leningrad by Suzanne Parry is a World War II novel about Sofya and her granddaughter Yelena. It is both a love story and a war saga about how the grandmother and granddaughter duo fight to survive during wartime and come together, harboring hope that one day everything will be okay. Both Sofya and Yelena hope for the loves of their lives to return from the war while they also help them in any way they can to endure. The book is set in the early months of the Nazi siege of Leningrad in 1941 and it tells the story of several people and how they survived the war.

I adored this book! From the start, I realized that there would be more to the story and that I would read about a lot of sad situations. That was true as throughout the book I couldn't help but feel emotional. Suzanne Parry has featured both pain and hope in one book, and it made me see the hardships that were endured during the war. These were depicted graphically, the plot was narrated perfectly, and the dialogue was engaging and interesting. The plot has diverse characters that tell the story from their different perspectives but in a way that grabbed my attention. There is a wide contrast between them which I liked and found easy to follow. The explanations were amazing, heart-grabbing, and stunning as well. I loved Lost Souls of Leningrad, its plot, its drama, and its characters.
