Mail Order Love by Amy Blakelear introduces us to Elizabeth (Ellie) Bates who finds herself in a precarious position. After the death of her family to typhoid, she finds herself working for her deceased brother's tyrant of a wife in Boston. When she learns that she is to be married off to a sleazy man in exchange for paying off her sister-in-law's debts, Ellie knows that she has to do something. A spur of the moment decision to place an ad in the paper stating that she is looking for a live-in house keeping job is really the only hope she has. She gets an answer from someone living in Oregon, but little does she know that the person who answered the ad is looking for a mail order bride for her grandson Jared Ford. With a mix up like this one can only guess how things might turn out! One thing's for certain; Ellie is going to prove her worth as a housekeeper so that the Fords will allow her to stay, that is until her heart becomes involved. How can she stay when he doesn't feel the same, but where will she go? Read Mail Order Love by Amy Blakelear to find out!

Mail Order Love is such a delightful twist on the historical mail order bride genre. I found myself hooked from the beginning with this one. Rich storytelling easily pulled me into the plot and the attention to detail allowed me to feel like I had stepped back in time. More than a few of the characters in Mail Order Love truly endeared themselves to me. I found myself totally connecting with Ellie and her plight. Grammy Ford had to be one of my favorite characters, she was such a kind person, and just what Ellie needed. Mail Order Love is a wonderfully written historical fiction that begs to be read in one sitting because the main characters worm their way into your heart and insist that you hear their story. Mail order bride fans are going to love this one, but anyone looking for a sweet read with endearing characters will find this a delight as well.
