What can you do to make a friend feel better? How do you let them know you are thinking about them and wish them well? In Malwen's Get Well Wishes by C. Géraldine that is what Malwen, a snail, is trying to decide. Malwen has written a letter for his friend Shellwod, but now he must figure out the best way to get it there. As he treks slowly along, many animals offer suggestions. Some encourage him to send it by train or sea. Each solution is delightfully illustrated. Finally, his sister suggests an even faster way to get his message through. Malwen will need a little help to accomplish his mission. Will his letter get through in time?

Malwen's Get Well Wishes is told in short rhyming verses. C. Géraldine has chosen a unique topic for this book. Sending wishes to a friend who is ill seems to be a lost art. Kids may be inspired after reading this to find a way to reach out to their friends who are sick. The author has solved Malwen's problem with a thoroughly modern solution that will resonate with kids. The illustrations by R. Fazu are saturated with color and fun details. Malwen is a hoot with his big eye stalks and the ever-present letter. My favorite character is the rooster on a scooter! Kids will enjoy seeing Shellwod at the end and his clearly visible boo-boo. The author has inserted a subtle message that it's fine to seek out help when you need it. This book will be a fun addition to a child's library.
