Management Makeover (The Ultimate Guide to Maximizing Your Property Management Income) by Marie Hamling is a non-fiction business/finance book that would appeal most to an audience of young adults and adults interested in a career in real estate management. The author shares her own experiences, hard-learned lessons, and insider tricks that she has gleaned from her own experience with real estate management. This book is designed to prepare the reader with the knowledge that they need in order to not only enter the field of real estate management, but to thrive as a real estate manager!

Management Makeover (The Ultimate Guide to Maximizing Your Property Management Income) by Marie Hamling is a well written book that I found not only useful to those pursuing a career in real estate management, but also in running or starting any business. I liked how the author tackled issues that any business owner or manager would face such as how to budget, how to pick staff, and how to achieve success in a service business.

I personally found that the author’s writing style is well suited for this topic as the book is written in plain English without any technical jargon that would have required a dictionary or Google to interpret, and is designed so that someone with no knowledge of real estate management could easily understand it. Overall, I found this book to be a very informative read and I would recommend it to anyone looking to start their own business, become a manager, and/or enter the field of real estate management.

Eloquently written and loaded with marketing insights, information, and tips, Management Makeover: The Ultimate Guide to Maximizing Your Property Management Income by Marie Hamling is a must-read, especially for real estate professionals and those in the property management business, as well as entrepreneurs who want to raise their level of success in business. From locating the best team members, to handling the financial aspects of business, to effective investment strategies and risk management, the author offers unconventional tricks, tips, and strategies that will drive readers to think out of the box, increase the profitability of their business and experience real growth while bringing in substantial revenue. While the book is specifically written for real estate professionals, it contains wisdom that is aptly applicable in other forms of business.

What exactly will you find in this book? The author empowers readers and makes them feel confident that they can take control of their business, offers some insights on the key components of property management vs. asset management, illustrates how readers can make the shift from property management to asset management with an increase of 20% to 40% in income, helps readers understand the “service” character of the real estate business and outlines the qualities that make this service effective and winning, and shows how they can avoid crippling risks and work the numbers for the best outcome.

But there is far more than that in this well-written and compelling book. Readers will find in these pages the secret to winning in the real estate business and gems that are quite often overlooked by professionals who rely solely on the traditional business models. Here is a book with the information that will give professionals an edge in a highly competitive market. Marie Hamling is a great communicator who uses a popular style of writing to drive a powerful message home to readers. Management Makeover: The Ultimate Guide to Maximizing Your Property Management Income is both informative and entertaining, with examples that are pulled from the everyday life of a real estate professional.

Management Makeover: The Ultimate Guide to Maximizing Your Property Management Income by Marie Hamling, CPM is the ultimate resource for individuals and couples who either manage a property or properties that they own, or who do this for others. Hamling begins with an introduction to her own journey in the profession, then proceeds to give in-depth, real life examples of what works and what does not. Hamling covers every conceivable mistake that can be (and likely has been) made and topics ranging from understanding the role as being service related to accounting, budgeting, and catapulting what usually starts off as a job someone happens to “fall into”, into a successful career.

Marie Hamling writes with enough clarity to make the tools she provides and the goals set feel achievable. With the authority of an individual who has positioned herself as an expert in the field, and with a firm hand, she is ready to guide those who are looking to expand and, of course, make more money. My favorite section was called It's Not The Ritz – But It Can Be, which goes over first impressions and how a tidy, clean, and well appointed property can make a huge difference. Curb appeal, having staff dressed smartly, and general manicuring can “Make the entrance and high traffic areas “pop”...” Hamling applies this philosophy to the layout of her book as well, with formatting that allows for quick reference in a self-help guide that can be used and implemented over and over again. I'd recommend this book to anyone already in or considering a career in property management.

Management Makeover is a work of non-fiction by author Marie Hamling, subtitled The Ultimate Guide to Maximizing Your Property Management Income. Hamling uses the model of real estate management to create principles and ideas which can be replicated to produce better management skills across all areas of business, with the overall goal of maximizing productivity in your professional life. As well as specific tips relating to property management, such as spotting pitfalls and the differences between property management and asset management, this book also develops transferable skills like budgeting, streamlining workflow, staff management and creative, out of the box thinking.

Marie Hamling uses specific examples and clear direction to get the key points of Management Makeover across. The book is a little jargon-heavy in places, but is clearly designed for those serious and already interested and versed in the world of finance, particularly relating to business and property. The sections are clearly defined and thoughts flow well from one area to the other. What I found particularly interesting was the emphasis placed on personal development as a manager in terms of image and ways of thinking, making this a self-help style volume in places, instead of a traditional how-to guide on the intricacies of property management. Whatever the approach, Marie Hamling certainly knows her industry and elevates it to a higher level, allowing her readers to access not only the trade secrets that can enable an individual to maximize their income, but also the personality traits and thought processes that it takes to achieve true success.
