Author Biography

Seventeen-year-old author Hermione Lee was born and raised in Taiwan, where everyone and everything in her life stimulated her rich imagination and inspired her to write. Although she prefers writing stories in her grandma's quaint, cozy home, she writes anytime and anywhere. To her, words are portals that whisk her to whimsical worlds of magic. When Hermione isn’t writing, she indulges herself in epic tales of fantasy, horror, and adventure; but mostly, dwelling in her reverie.

Hermione's life motto says a lot about her stories: Fight for what you believe in; believe in what you fight for. This sentence best represents her journey of becoming a writer. She waged a constant war against invisible enemies— self-doubt, self-discrimination, and of course, countless rejections. However, these struggles only strengthened her will to succeed and pursue her ambition. Along the way, Hermione learned to stick to her goals, have humility and perseverance, and stay loyal to her own beliefs. Her personality is strongly projected on the characters she created; firm, unyielding, and with a thirst to prove themselves.

When Hermione first started writing, she had eyes for only the fame and recognition accompanied by success; however, her opinions have matured greatly during the past few years. She continues to write stories nowadays, but out of sheer interest and passion rather than gaining profit.

Marvels of the Underworld is book two of the Otherworld Trilogy by Hermione Lee. So many things have changed for Alexandria Richardson. Once she wanted to be anyone but who she was, a witch no one wanted to talk to or be seen with, but that was transformed when she and a few of her classmates were transported to the mysterious Otherworld. She is happier as the princess of the Otherworld, but little does she know that trouble is brewing on the horizon. Will she and her friends manage to get through these dangers unscathed?

A spectacular fantasy novel immersed in adventure, romance, and challenges that had me reading through the chapters as fast as I could! Marvels of the Underworld is a descriptive story with an engaging plot and distinctive characters that grow throughout. Alexandria, her cousin and her friends' adventures are filled with strife and uncertainty. A tragic disaster sets a grim tone on their journey as they struggle to save the Otherworld. Hermione Lee skillfully crafted the story in a way that hooked my attention from the start and held me captive right to the very end. Lee has built a beautiful world but there is a hidden depth of darkness that could extinguish the light. Friendships and trust are put to the test and I felt like I was right there with Alexandria as she goes through these difficult trials. I thoroughly enjoyed reading such a fantastical and superb story! Looking forward to the third book! Great job!
