Maya and Filippo See Impossible Things in the Garden City by Alinka Rutkowska is the delightful story of Maya and Filippo who live on a beautiful cruise ship, Fun Princess, with their parents and their cat, Othello. Their ship docks at Christchurch and readers are taken on a city tour along with Maya and Filippo. Before they commence their city tour, the kids go to the youth club and participate in drawing sessions. The rest of the kids do not believe what Maya and Filippo draw, but they get to see them while touring the city. The book has a beautiful message of letting children discover new things inside and outside. Readers get to know more about Christchurch which is also called the Garden City.

I enjoyed the story thoroughly as it not only teaches kids about a new place, but also about new things that exist within themselves. It teaches kids acceptance of others' ideas and to stop being judgmental. The illustrations are bright and colorful and they give pace and movement to the characters and story. The book is perfect as a bedtime story book and can also be used in classrooms and school libraries for read aloud sessions. Books with a message and concept are ideal to read out to kids as they make teaching and learning easy. Maya and Filippo will remain in the hearts of young readers for a very long time with their charm. The book is a fun-filled read, packed with mirth and excitement.
