"Meditations, Mantras and Ways to Stop Beating Yourself Up" by Clara Masai is a self-help book dealing with self talk. These are the things we say to ourselves — I’m fat, I’m stupid. I am sure you have more to add to the list. Even though we may say we know it is not true, by talking to ourselves this way we begin to feel as though it is true. And if you feel you are stupid, why would you go to college or try to get a better job? Ms. Masai teaches how to stop doing this by substituting positives and reprogramming your thinking. It is the old “fake it till you make it” strategy. By telling yourself positives you will begin to believe them and act as if they a re true. This technique is reinforced with methods of meditation and mantra creation.

This book is helpful and the techniques may work if you use them. Like any other skill, visualization and meditation improve with practice. The unspoken part of this is that you must take steps toward what you want. It will not drop from the sky. You cannot use these techniques to harm another person or get what is not rightfully yours. Also, some people may find it difficult to take the time to meditate, and that is the other thing that is needed to develop these skills. You must have time to sit quietly and do this work - something that is difficult for me to do and maybe it is for you too but then it does pay off. "Meditations, Mantras and Ways to Stop Beating Yourself Up" is one means to the end. I applaud Clara Masai for reaching out to help others with this information.
