Hannah Legare was 11 years old when her father went fishing, and never returned! When the boat was found, his dog was patiently waiting in the boat for his master to return, but Hannah's father, Dr. Buzz Legare, was never found.

Twenty four years later, Hannah is 35; married to her husband, Jon, and running a successful business in San Francisco. She is still convinced that her father is still alive, and it is eating her to know what really happened to her father...he wouldn't just leave her and her family.

This obsession, finding her father, has practically caused her to lose her husband and her common sense. Hannah gets drunk one night, and, locked out of her house, she decides to climb the fire escape to get in, only to fall and hurt herself and her pride.

She goes back home, leaving her husband behind. Her mother, Daisy, and her brother, Palmer, try to help her through her recovery, but Hannah runs into her old flame and tries to enlist his help to find out what happened to her father; meanwhile, her mother and brother worry about the measures she takes to get to the bottom of the mystery...dredging up some past family secrets that may be better left unknown.

will Hannah ever find out what happened to her father? Is her marriage ruined by her obsession and her drinking?
