Author Biography

Mia’s Magic Wand has been emerging from the mythic fog of Peter's imagination for years. Sometimes the characters were happy with his writing but they often seemed to have turned their backs on him. Then he had a lucid daydream where he was going down the tunnel of death and met a stranger coming the other way. He grabbed Peter by the throat and screamed, ‘You knew I lived in your neighbourhood, you knew all about my s**t and that someone like me was never going to talk to you. Why the f**k didn’t you do something so desperate and so beautiful that someone like me would know that someone up there had thought of me?’ Peter hopes Mia’s Magic Wand finds that stranger one day.

Wow! Just, wow! That’s exactly what I thought when I finished reading Mia’s Magic Wand, the new book by author Peter Volkofsky. This story grabbed me from the very start and kept me obsessively reading all the way through until the very end! Follow the story of Mia, a woman who was drugged and raped by philanthropist Tate Wolsey. Tate’s wife provides Mia with an archive of videos that Tate held in reserve for the purposes of blackmailing others. Tate had called these tapes his “magic wand” and suddenly Mia finds herself in possession of them. Many want what she now possesses, and are willing to do just about anything to obtain them. Will Mia be able to use the “magic wand” for what she desperately wants, the return of her daughter, or will she die trying? You’ll need to read this fantastic book to find out!

I loved Mia’s Magic Wand. Loved. It. Author Peter Volkofsky has done a fantastic job in creating an exciting story that will keep readers on the edge of their seats, as well as characters that they will connect with, relate to and truly come to care about. If that isn’t a hallmark of a great author, I’m not sure what is. Any reader who loves an exciting and suspenseful work of fiction should absolutely read this book. I am so pleased to be able to highly recommend Mia’s Magic Wand and look forward to reading more from the obviously talented author, Peter Volkofsky, as soon as I possibly can!

In Mia's Magic Wand by Peter Volkofsky, great characters come together in an intense drama that involves love, blackmailing, gambling, kidnapping, murder, and a whole lot of intrigue. Doesn’t that sound like too much for one novel? But the author pulls it off masterfully, weaving all these elements into the story like a gifted storyteller. Mia is raped by Tate Wolsey after doping her. Wolsey’s wife steals one of his most precious possessions — videos with blackmailing info, something he calls his magic wand — and gives them to Mia. Mia has an incredible weapon in her hand, a weapon that will set her up as a target for one of the most unforgiving men in politics. Things escalate just too quickly, Tate is shot through the head, his wife is killed, and Mia’s daughter is kidnapped. Mia has killed before; what will she do to get back the one thing that links her life with purpose?

There is just so much going on in this novel and a lot of good stuff to say about it. One doesn’t need to read much into the story to discover that Peter Volkofsky knows what he does and he does it so well that he will leave readers utterly satisfied. I loved the writing and the author’s voice is so unique that it will seduce readers instantly. The author’s use of dialogue is awesome and it is beautiful to see how naturally it flows and how it enhances plot and characterization. I first thought Mia's Magic Wand would be a fantasy, by the mere mention of “wand” in the title, but the author took me by surprise. This is a crime novel that is fraught with humor, drama, conflict, and a lot of entertainment. Fast-paced and filled with compelling characters, it will appeal to fans of crime and stories that feature intrigue. A brilliant realization!

For readers who are into plot-driven novels with complex characters, Mia’s Magic Wand by Peter Volkofsky will be a delight. I was so engrossed in the plot that I read the entire book straight through the night. Then I hated the fact that it ended. First off, the author has created characters that are solid, each with something dark, and a weakness that begs to be satisfied at all cost. The story also has a wonderful setting in modern day Australia with a toxic political atmosphere.

Mia is a single mom, and all she cares about is her daughter, but she has a dangerous penchant for gambling which puts her in a hazardous position with Tate Wolsey, a very powerful and unscrupulous man who dopes and rapes her. Coincidentally, Tate’s wife steals one of his powerful secrets and weapon, videos that could do a lot of damage to some top-ranking personalities; she gives these videos to Mia. Things could have ended up differently for Mia except that another powerful man from the government has unleashed a dangerous criminal who will stop at nothing to get the videos. Tate is shot in the head, his wife is murdered, and Mia’s daughter is kidnapped. The game gets more dangerous and closer to Mia. Will she be next in the list to go down or can she outwit her adversary?

Mia’s Magic Wand is a gorgeous read, a great piece of entertainment. The plot is tightly woven and it moves very fast. The reader will be surprised at how the story evolves. But what took me by surprise are the characters and it is just fair to acclaim Peter Volkofsky’s gift for character. He creates them to be addictive and, yes, readers will find it hard not to cling to them. This was a good read, indeed.

In an interesting and intriguing work of fiction by Peter Volkofsky, Mia’s Magic Wand is a book that this reader won’t soon forget, telling the story of the unfortunate Mia, a woman who has suffered much in her life. Drugged and raped by Tate Wolsey, a philanthropist who holds a great deal of power, it at first appears that she will have no recourse for punishment of this heinous crime. But when Tate’s wife gives her his “Magic Wand” - an archive of videos that he has kept for the purpose of blackmailing others - she realizes that she now holds the key not only to punish him, but to do so much more. When others find out that she has the “Magic Wand,” they are willing to do almost anything to get it as well, including kidnapping Mia’s daughter. Mia and her commando husband are prepared to do whatever it takes to get their daughter back, including turning over the "Magic Wand." Will they rescue their daughter and escape the violence pursuing them, or will the "Magic Wand" be the end of them all?

Author Peter Volkofsky has done a great job with Mia’s Magic Wand. The story is well crafted, exciting and full of adventure. The author’s narrative style is crisp and straight-forward, very easy to read and understand, but it’s descriptive enough that readers will feel as if they are actually a part of the action going on all across Australia. Readers who enjoy thrillers, action adventure, or just a great read of fiction in general should certainly give this book a try. I can confidently give this book my highest recommendation, and hope that Peter Volkofsky is already at work on his next novel. I, for one, will certainly be watching for it!

Peter Volkofsky’s Mia's Magic Wand is a captivating story with a great plot and awesome characters. The novel speaks about many themes, but the most dominant ones are blackmail, kidnapping, and murder. Mia is a woman who has a dubious past and a high propensity for gambling, a mother of a daughter that she loves very much. When she is doped and raped by the powerful Tate Wolsey, she seizes the opportunity to have the latter in her grip by accepting his stolen “magic wand” — blackmailing videos. Little does she know that the videos handed to her by Tate’s wife will set her on a path she’d never have thought possible. Tate is shot, his wife murdered, and Mia’s daughter kidnapped, and it seems the person behind these crimes wants the videos and will stop at nothing to get them. Is Mia ready to trade these videos for her daughter? Her life is on the line.

Mia's Magic Wand is a very satisfying read, a crime thriller with a great setting in Australia. There is a lot of drama taking place in this novel and readers who love their stories well-paced will find a lot of pleasure reading it. The prose is exquisite, seasoned with naturally crafted and intelligent dialogues. The characters — oh! the characters — are just so very well sculpted that it will be hard for the reader not to fall for them. I loved the relationship between Mia and her daughter, which becomes the central focus of the conflict. Peter Volkofsky explores political corruption and shows how far politicians can go, or how low they can stoop to cover up their dirty secrets. Mia's Magic Wand is the kind of novel that can fit into different genres, but the crime elements are as well-developed as elements of a perfect thriller. It was a great, great, great read!

This book is not just an action packed thriller. It's a book that got me thinking about being alive in a real world which is fraught with danger and poetry. It's locations are so easy to pictures. It's loaded with believable, vulnerable, real characters who resonate with me. Pete Volkofsky doesn't pull any punches with this character's reactions to their very real dilemmas.
