Midnight Assassin: A Tale of Lust and Revenge is a supernatural crime novel written by Sherry Rentschler. Terry and Tempie Mastriano are twin assassins who grew up with values from the Old Country. When their father, Tony Mastriano, is murdered, a plan is set in motion to avenge his death by taking out the killer – mob boss ‘Needles’ Puzzoli. Leading up to the planned time and date of the hit, Terry is confronted and warned off by a stunningly beautiful redhead who seems to be able to move at superhuman speed and could communicate with Terry telepathically. She tries many times to seduce Terry, telling him that she will be the one to kill Needles and nobody else. It is not until a vastly witnessed physical altercation with her that Terry discovers she is a vampire, and somebody who cared very much for Tony Mastriano. Terry’s assassination plans come to a crashing halt when his twin sister is taken hostage by his mark. Now Terry has no choice but to beg for the vampire’s help, and be willing to seal the deal with his own blood in order to rescue his sister from his father’s murderer before it’s too late.

I was unsure what to expect of this novel with such an outlandish plot, but Sherry Rentschler successfully delivered a jaw-dropping, adrenaline-pumping tale which made me want to continue to the next page ... and the next. From the very beginning, Midnight Assassin: A Tale of Lust and Revenge was fast-paced and filled with action. The characters outside of Needles’ circle were actually quite likeable, regardless that they were on the wrong side of the law. When the townsfolk unexpectedly come together, the reader can clearly see the difference between fear and respect. I very much enjoyed this title and recommend it to mature audiences who enjoy a dose of the supernatural with drama, action, organized crime, loyalty and love.
