"Monster Heart" is the story of Francis Norman Stein. Francis became Frank N. Stein when he started using steroids to beef up his already large size. He was a kind hearted young man turned into a raging monster by the drugs. Soon it wasn’t only steroids but he took anything he could get his hands on and in any combination.

This is not a happy story. The reader will not laugh or smile. Instead you will be horrified at the lengths a young promising athlete will go to increase his performance. The consequences were nightmarish. It was too late by the time his parents faced reality. This book is a wake up call for all of us.

Gary Turcotte has written several books. I think this one is his best due to the nature of the plot. Despite the editing errors and stifled dialogue, the plot kept me turning pages. Turcotte's talent lies in character development. This should be mandatory reading for parents of middle and high school students. Perhaps someones' life can be spared.
