Cordelia has a monstrous secret, one that no one knows about, not even her adoptive family, nor the society she lives in. Not even her best friend, Wally. Here is the secret — she is a monster in the morning. Cordelia Grey grew up in an orphanage where she was badly treated, abused both verbally and physically, a place where she never knew what love and redemption meant. But when naïve and loving foster parents came for her, it was too late, because a curse had already entered her soul, slowly making into her a monster. Now she has to hide this dark part of herself while struggling to live up to the love she’s given. But can she keep her secret, and what has Wally Blythe to do with her torments?

Monster in the Morning by A.W. Sweaters is an engaging first entry in The Monster Misadventures series. The author starts this beautiful yarn in the most unlikely of manners, in the traditionally, “...gather round, shut the world out, and let me spin you a yarn.” And he does spin an incredible yarn, an enjoyable story with awesome characters. From the start, the author gets the reader to feel the inner pain of the protagonist. The story is told in a jovial, humorous tone that has the reader captivated. A.W. Sweaters knows how to keep readers focused and his characters are imagined to be irresistible. I loved the psychological message of Monster in the Morning and the way the author shows the influence our childhood experiences can have on us as we grow up.
