Alberto Herrera shares a Latino fable in his children's book, "Musika: A Delightfully Harmonic Tale of the Origin of Music." Matisse loves his birds and one morning while releasing his birds he hears the elders doing their daily ritual of praying. Later their prayer for rain is answered and while Matisse is collecting water, he drops some of the drops of rain and hears a sound he has not heard before, but which he loves. Running off to share with the elder, Matisse introduces his discovery of music to the elder. After this, every time it rains, Matisse fills pouches with water and his birds transport the pouches of rain to various areas sharing music with others.

This is a well-written fable that not only shares a fable of how music originated, but also shares a great amount of information with regard to the Latino culture. I always find it interesting to read about other cultures and also fables about "everyday things." The illustrations are well-done and go along perfectly with the text as they enhance the story and build upon the cultural aspect that is shared. Matisse is a boy who is curious and who has a love for birds, learning about his own culture and excited to share his interests with others. Therefore he is a great main character to be shared with other children and his characteristics are sure to attract them. I really enjoyed this story and this fable about the discovery of music!
