If you want a good afternoon's read, think about picking up a copy of Eileen Brady's Muzzled. Pet lovers will appreciate all the references to pet personalities, pet diseases and the intrigue of mentoring show dogs in competition. Veterinarian Kate Turner has left her New York practice to go up state to cover the practice of the local vet for a year while the vet takes a much-deserved trip around the world. Kate has barely unpacked her bags in Oak Falls when she is called to the home of prominent dog show owners. Upon arriving, Kate finds complete chaos among the show dogs and she then discovers the two pet owners slain. To make matters worse, the champion Cavalier King Charles spaniel seems to be missing. Kate unwittingly becomes a prime suspect when clues appear to point to her involvement in the murders. In return, she turns to amateur sleuthing in a town with more suspects than residents.

When the slain couple's daughter comes to town, Kate cannot help but have her own suspicions. The daughter, Pippi, begins to sell off the champion breeding dogs and she appears totally indifferent to the demise of her parents. And then, another death puts Dr. Kate into a protective mode. You'll love the characters in Muzzled and author Brady knows just how to develop the small town mystery into an attention-grabber. No one is what s/he seems in Oak Falls and this is to the benefit and enjoyment of the reader.
