I really enjoyed reading My Father's Son by John Davis. This story is about how the author, John, grew up with an abusive father. The story tells how he had the strength to finally stand up to his father and years later discover a shocking secret that changes his life.

I thought that My Father's Son was going to turn out differently. From the beginning Davis grabbed my attention from the scenes he witnessed as a child. A gun being put to your mother’s head is not something a child should ever see. When he dropped a bombshell in the second part of the book, there was no putting the book down. I felt for Davis for having a difficult childhood and having to grow up with parents that did not seem to care. The abuse his father put him through was heartbreaking. I really admire Davis for not becoming like his father. Instead of following in his father’s footsteps, Davis took his own road. The bombshell that was dropped was truly shocking and something I never saw coming. I usually guess these things before the author tells them, but I completely missed this one.

This was a really awesome story. It made me curious about my own father whom I have never met. The mob ties that may have occurred with Roberto were also really interesting and had me struggling to remember all the mob stories I have read to see if he was mentioned. I recommend reading My Father's Son if you like memoirs or stories with a surprise ending. I wish John Davis nothing but the best in life.
