Mysterious Places by Jeffrey Gorney is the fascinating journey of the author who goes in search of his roots. From Brooklyn to Romania, this memoir is all about his journey of discovery, finding out the true meaning of family, family history, and the mysteries that are there in the past. The author speaks about how his Grandma skillfully wove the family facts into fable and she planted his soul in the Romania of her past. The memoir is a fine combination of family history and a travel journal and keeps readers entertained with a set of stories that are masterfully interwoven into each other. Like any family story, this memoir is a heartwarming and wonderful book that will leave readers reminiscing about their own pasts and family history.

Mysterious Places has been divided into two parts. Jeffrey Gorney's memories, emotions, and thoughts are palpable to readers as they flip the pages. The author's approach while describing his childhood days and life is creative and there is an element of nostalgia and poignancy that makes the memoir beautiful to read. The insights about his grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, and parents make the memoir come alive and add to the appeal of this book.
