Mystery at Point Beach: Pirate's Booty by Kate Jungwirth and Deborah Ann Erdmann takes the young reader on a journey through time as it notes some fascinating details about pirates, their lives and what that may have been like. The story is an enchanting mystery about three younger kids on vacation at Point Beach. They always seem to find themselves in situations where their creative, inquiring minds are needed to solve mysteries around the area. They try their hardest to stay out of trouble in the process; however, sometimes trouble just seems to find them. This tale is an amazing mystery set to intrigue young and old alike. It keeps the reader entertained with details about a past pirate in the area, and invites the reader to also try to figure out the mystery as it goes along. Not many mystery books do that. Most of them seem to try to keep the secret until the end. In this amazing tale, the authors leave plenty of room for readers to make their own deductions, conclusions and then find out if they are right at the end of the book. If you are looking for an entry level mystery for your children, this would definitely be the book to offer them.

Mystery at Point Beach: Pirate's Booty honestly had me intrigued the entire way through. The details provided were just enough to make me wonder who the pirate was in reference and also, of course, where they were going to find his treasure! I appreciated how the authors allowed the reader space to try to figure out the mystery along the way. Children around the age range of this book want to figure things out and use their ideas and imaginations as much as possible. This book allows them to do that and more. The style of writing allows the reader room to imagine a pirate's life and what that may be like. I also appreciated the quips and puns along the way. These had me chuckling a few times. As an author myself, those are nice additions. Very good book. Overall, an amazing plot and idea for a mystery. Young mystery buffs will love it.

Mystery at Point Beach is a fun, fast-paced read for kids who enjoy mysteries. The characters are easy to relate to, and the subject matter is sure to hook a reader. After all, who doesn't like reading about UFOs? Recommended for readers in grade 3 and up.
