A suspenseful, unfamiliar premise, dense plotting, and unusually compelling characters are just a few of the aspects that make No Quarter: Wenches (The Complete Series): A Piratical Suspenseful Romance by MJL Evans and GM O'Connor the ideal escape for fans of adventure and romance, unfolding against the backdrop of exotic settings in the Caribbean. Then there is the multi-layered conflict and subplots that enrich the narrative and create an enduring sense of intrigue.

The setting is 1689 and the city is Port Royal, Jamaica. Atia Crisp is in prison, not the best conditions, but can she escape the grip of merciless captors? The story begins as readers are introduced to an interesting cast of characters. Captain Jean-Paul la Roche finds his hands full as he struggles to get the refugees from Strangewayes’s plantation in the Blue Mountains to safety, while figuring out how to liberate the love of his life. On another front, the English are a thorn in his flesh and he has to deal with them. Then there are the wenches, a shadowy group of women embroiled with all sorts of despicable people. They are poised in a fight for the control of the Caribbean. And when hemmed in from all sides, can they place their hope in the pirates of Port Royal?

MJL Evans and GM O'Connor reinvent the Caribbean Islands and create a pirate series that is as engrossing as it is delightful, from scenes that are focused, to the intriguing plot, to the fascinating setting. But the authors, who obviously understand what excites fans of the genre, hit every mark. The results are nothing but pleasurable, down to the last twist in the narrative, down to the last dialogue. Each entry in the series is well crafted, each imbued with a strong sense of conflict and characters that are hard to give up on. You find yourself following them through each scene as the conflict escalates. I enjoyed the network of the wenches, an element that nourishes the plot and adds to the tension. No Quarter: Wenches (The Complete Series): A Piratical Suspenseful Romance isn’t a book you start when you don’t have much time, because you won’t be able to put it down. It is fast-paced, with a complex plot that never runs short of twists and surprises. A gorgeous offering indeed!
