Five-year-old Oliver loves living on a pirate ship with his pirate parents. He loves being a pirate and playing around on the ship, but being around everything piratical also gives him a wild imagination. Oliver is a sick little boy, and while he is in the doctor's office or taking his treatment, his imagination goes wild and he takes a journey around the world on his ship, Victory, looking for a Treasure Chest of Hope. He meets many people on his journey that volunteer to help him. On their journey, Oliver also tells them of his exciting 6th birthday party coming up. Will the pirates ever find the treasure chest? And what is this hope that Oliver thinks is so urgent that he must find it?

This is such a fun and exciting story. Oliver is a special little boy and wants to do something great that will help make the world a better place. This little character stole my heart with his desire to rid the world of cancer because this illness has cost him so much. I thoroughly enjoyed his imaginative journey of a lifetime with the pirates, with Oliver happily in the lead. And the illustrations by Penny Horner are so very cute.  The beautiful pictures do a great job of helping tell the story. I love the beautiful bold colors, and the characters are adorable, especially their faces. I think children of all ages will enjoy this book. Smaller children will love having Oliver's Magical Journeys by Penny Horner read to them as they look at the pictures. I highly recommend you pick up this book for your child's library. And please recommend this book to any library, classroom, and other places children will be.
