Ollie is a friendly dog and he loves to play and explore. Ollie wants to go to the farm and make new friends there. He knows the chickens will be by the barn. The chickens do not want to be Ollie's friends and they do not like him. Ollie decides to become friendly with the pigs. He tries rolling in the mud with them but the pigs also do not like Ollie. Ollie feels sad but he runs to the lake and jumps in, thinking the ducks will cheer at his jump. But the ducks swim to the other side of the lake. As he is wandering around, hoping he will make a new friend, a farmer passes by and takes him in his tractor to a new field. He tells Ollie to play with the sheep while he is mending the fence. Will the sheep play with Ollie? Will Ollie be able to make new friends this time?

Ollie Makes New Friends (The Adventures of Ollie the Collie Book 1) by Valerie Brooks is an adorable story that will take children to the farm and fields and introduce them to the animals living there. The author's illustrations, like her words, are delightful and breathe life into the story and the characters. It is fun to see Ollie going in search of friends and his outgoing character has been portrayed well, making him distinctive from the rest of the animals in the story. It is a good bedtime storybook and tutors can use it in classrooms and school libraries for storytelling and read-aloud sessions.
