Pignoli the Pig is a children's adventure story by Inga Eissmann Buccella. High above a remote hilltop in Italy resided a happy family of pigs. But without a farm to provide for them, the family had to hunt and forage for themselves. To Mama and Papa's delight, both of their daughters, even the newborn Persimmon, had become competent hunters. However, their middle brother did not take hunting seriously. Yet to be named, he begins to feel shame when, one hot summer, the food supply becomes scarce. In search of food, he sets out toward the woods, where he meets the Queen of the Forest, Juniper, the deer, who guides him to a pinecone tree with delicious nuts. The young piglet brings home the nutritious nuts to feed his family and proclaims himself to be Pignoli.

A fun-filled adventure book that teaches the value of sharing and taking responsibility, Pignoli the Pig is an entertaining read that kids of all ages will love. Author Inga Eissmann Buccella crafts a memorable and heartwarming tale that invigorates the reader's imagination and instills in them the principles of self-reliance. The illustrations complementing the writing add to the worldbuilding, making the story all the more immersive and enjoyable to read. All the characters are immensely likable. Pignoli is a youngling who grows up a bit pampered and privileged but comes through on his own after witnessing his family's needs. His growth was one of my favorite aspects of the story. Recommended to children and parents alike.
