Playing Mantis: A Workbook for Inner Peace and a Playbook for the Revolution is by D’Ann Katsu Davis. A journaling-style journey, Playing Mantis is a transcendental memoir for the ages. In this creative autobiographical work about a praying mantis, Davis shares the spiritual experiences behind her sacred music. A sound ceremonialist and author, in Playing Mantis, Davis informs with the text to her primarily instrumental music.

D’Ann Katsu Davis frames her special gift of music in Playing Mantis. This highly original book and audio experience is a tonic. A collaboration of spirit, nature, rich music, and technology, Playing Mantis is a path to attuning to inner peace. Pure sound and sonic energy, like that reminiscent of a sound bath, is healing and refreshing. I learned many new things in Playing Mantis, for instance, what a shakuhachi was (being a Japanese bamboo flute). No matter what your faith or belief is, or your taste in music, you are likely to find something to extract from this work that is peaceful, soothing, and grounding. Playing Mantis can transport the mind to a state of harmony. Who would have guessed that today we can so easily access via contemporary mediums this kind of comfort? With soul-stirring sound, this creation is universal. I found the title Playing Mantis to be clever. The cover illustration is very inspiring. It shows a praying mantis in a lotus-praying yogi-pose with a caterpillar and butterfly hovering.

The audio quality is zen, unlike the usual audiobook voice narration, being wordless instead with nature sounds. Meditative music is deep and soul-stirring and yogic.
