In Plucked by Blaine C. Readler, the last thing Rommy remembers is driving out of the city and hearing a deafening sound similar to a jet engine. He wakes up on an isolated ranch in the Sierra Nevada foothills, along with three other strangers. They have no power save for some food and a few cows in the barn. They have no idea who is responsible for their strange predicament and the reason behind it but soon enough their mysterious abductors make themselves known. Rommy and the others have to work together to survive and figure out how to escape from their peculiar situation.

Filled with mystery, conflict, and suspense, fans of the genre will definitely love the concept and the story premise that are brilliantly developed into a fast-paced plot. The rustic Sierra Nevada foothills make the perfect background that exudes calm but eerie seclusion. At first, Rommy comes across as slightly incompetent to be an asset to the group compared to the tough-talking, sarcastic Clara who seems more forward when comes to making decisions. Tina is an EMT whose approachable demeanor becomes the subtle binding force for the group. Yet Rommy gradually shows his valuable worth as an engineer along with Teddy, an alcoholic college instructor who provides valuable notions, and young Christopher who’s a whiz with radio transmission. It's easy to root for the well-developed characters especially when other unwanted guests threaten to destabilize the group. With its clear narrative, Blaine C. Readler's sci-fi horror Plucked is an engaging and inventive contemporary tale about human survival and ingenuity when facing an otherworldly threat.

During a freak event, a group of strangers is rendered unconscious and relocated to an abandoned farm in the eerie science-fiction novel Plucked by Blaine C. Readler. While driving down the highway, Rommy hears a humming sound right before he blacks out. When he regains consciousness, Rommy is naked in an unfamiliar farmhouse, and he isn't alone. Five other people have found themselves in the same place and circumstances. In an effort to leave, they venture outside the abandoned farmhouse, only to discover that all the vehicles on the property have been destroyed. When Rommy and Tina, another one of the survivors, explore the neighborhood near the farmhouse, they find they are not the only ones experiencing the bizarre situation. While investigating the countryside, Rommy and Tina are stunned and horrified to witness a strange craft blasting one of the homes and everyone in it. Closely monitored by a small drone, Rommy and the other farmhouse residents attempt to keep their captors happy so that they don't become the next victims blown to bits. But, what do their captors want? Are they extraterrestrial or human?

Filled with action, Plucked by Blaine C. Readler is a creepy science fiction novel with a post-apocalyptic flavor. With a captivating storyline and fascinating characters, it is a thrilling and suspenseful tale that had me sitting on the edge of my seat from the first page until the last. Caught up in the intensity and drama surrounding the characters and their situations, I couldn't put the book down until I reached the closing scene. It is a riveting tale with a compelling storyline filled with action and suspense that promises to entertain everyone who enjoys extraterrestrial-inspired novels.

Plucked by Blaine C. Readler is a science fiction mystery thriller. Four strangers are plucked out of their everyday life and put in a cabin out in the middle of nowhere. There is lots of confusion at first as Rommy and Tina and two others try to make sense of why they are there. In time, they begin to understand that most of the population has vanished and they have been selected to be in some kind of bizarre experiment. Who is behind it and what is its purpose? Answers don’t come easy for the four lab rats. They must first learn to get along and, second, find food and water to keep themselves alive.

Plucked by Blaine C. Readler works well because it keeps the reader guessing from the first page to the last. The plot is creative and unpredictable. The mystery at its core of what’s behind everything is unfolded little by little like an extended episode of The Twilight Zone. The characters in the story are well defined, interesting, and likable. I found the character interactions including the bonds that are formed and the conflicts that arise to be one of my favorite things about the book. I also enjoyed the sheer uniqueness of the story. I’m an avid sci-fi reader and I can honestly say Plucked is an original. I recommend Plucked to readers who like a fun, “what if” kind of story that will keep you turning the pages to find out what the heck is going on.
