Poetry & Praise by Mary Jane Gonzales is a poignant collection of poems which speaks about the poet's journey through good times and bad times. She speaks about her relationship with God and her journey with Him through all the moments in her life. She deals with almost everything connected to life through her poems.

Poetry & Praise is written with a lot of love and feelings toward the Lord. The author's faith shines through in this collection. 'Setbacks' and 'Aging' speak about the realities of life, which each one of us face at some stage in our lives. Every poem in the book is woven with a reference to God which reiterates our belief in the supreme power and takes us closer to God. Another favorite poem of mine in this book is 'Lavender and Lace' and 'Offspring'. The language is neat and elegant and the message is clear. The poems are written with a lot of clarity and in-depth knowledge. The ending is glorious with the poem 'A Babe in the Manger' which is the birth of Jesus Christ.

I found the collection very uplifting and inspiring. Poetry is a niche market, so it is very important how poets present their poetry. The poems are beautiful and the layout and formatting are done aesthetically so that they are visually appealing to the reader. The poems are short, simple, elegant, and they speak about the poet's closeness to God and her soul searching moments. The poems, though spiritual, will be very appealing to many readers.
