Poodles at Play, written by Paula Lynn McGrew and illustrated by Krystine Kercher, is an adorable and enjoyable children’s book to read aloud or enjoy alone. Oodles of poodles came to the door and wanted to play. After asking mom and getting ready for the day, the child is able to spend the day playing with all of these poodles. This is the beginning of a fun, adventure-filled day for all. The story is written in rhyme; therefore the story flows nicely and it will engage young listeners and readers. There are also adorable illustrations that correspond nicely with the story. These poodles will have every reader wishing that he or she would wake up tomorrow morning, open the door, and see oodles of poodles waiting there to play!

Paula Lynn McGrew has created a book that will be enjoyed over and over again and lead to children thinking about what they would do if oodles of poodles showed up at their door one morning. McGrew’s children’s book is full of adventure and fun times spent outdoors which is a refreshing change of pace from television and video games. My children (ages three and five) loved listening to me read this book to them; they were completely engaged in the story and giggled throughout the adventure-filled day with the poodles. They also really enjoyed looking at the illustrations by Krystine Kercher throughout the book. As my daughter stated, “Those poodles are just adorable!” I would love to see these two ladies team up on children’s books in the future!
