Michael was plagued from nightmares concerning his childhood, when the other kids in school snickered at him. As a sad and lonely child he developed an imaginary twin for company. As an adult he still talks to his twin. The wealthy computer genius has just been selected as the Most Eligible Bachelor in Portland, Oregon. Seeing no reason for a woman to be interested in him, other than his money, he turns down the bachelor award although deep inside, he wants it. Michael could have anything money could buy but he feels inferior and money could not buy him self-confidence.

Michael is lonely and wants a wife; not just any wife, but one who would love him for himself. A plan formulates between Michael and his best friend, Nathan. Michael pretends to be poor and heads to a small mountain town, Laurel Springs, where he meets Cindy, a scar-faced loser waitress.

Patricia Pierson offers readers a delightful romance. I was concerned when I read the blurb. It made the plot sound like a recycled, worn out theme. This book is anything but recycled or worn out. This is not your same old, same old, plot. Pierson has placed her own unique spin on it. She has included twists and turns to keep me eagerly turning the pages. There are several subplots but Pierson manages to weave them all together toward the end.

Michael is not your typical hero. He is self conscious of the fact that he is very short. He wears high-heeled cowboy boots to make him look taller. He has an imaginary twin that he talks to and that talks back to him. I thought the twin was smarter than Michael most of the time. Cindy is small, with beautiful blonde hair, but a disfiguring scar on her face. She is very loyal and protective of her child and grandparents. It wasn't love at first sight. Nathan, Rainie, Bob, Jimmy and Grandma were all secondary characters but Pierson developed them and gave each one a strong personality.

By now you can probably tell I really enjoyed this book. Well done Patricia Pierson!
