Posse of Thieves: Bringing Back a Little Dignity to Crime by Marc J Reilly is a comedic novel that follows a master thief (or, something to that effect) named Tinman and his ragtag group of underlings as they attempt to rectify a loss of millions of dollars. And how exactly did they lose it? They gave back stolen artifacts that turned out to be more valuable than just some sticks woven into baskets. And also...how do they plan to rectify the loss? By stealing stuff again, of course. The odds aren't great when the posse is now three and a half decades older, not much wiser, and sports nicknames such as Butt Crack; but it doesn't matter, because they believe they can and we're along for the ride...so nothing can really go wrong, right?

Posse of Thieves by Marc J Reilly is a fun and funny adventure that shovels out the laughs in huge slings. It's primarily driven by narrative and the dialogue is interspersed pretty sparingly, but somehow it just works. Reilly does a great job developing the crew and each stands on their own, although Tinman is the undisputed star. I was looking for a romp into something a little less serious than I'd found myself enmeshed in and this hit all the good spots for me. I'd recommend this book to anyone with an interest in intelligent comedy that errs on the side of toilet humor (which is the best, if we're being honest with one another). Posse of Thieves is the best possible way to get lost in a weekend where a few chuckles could be of use.
