Prep School for Serial Killers by Tara Platt is a thrilling novel about overthrowing the powers that be and securing your own destiny. Set in a dystopian society in the 22nd century, Anathema is a sixteen-year-old student at one of the special boarding schools set up to train future assassins for the government. Students are fed daily pills to develop them into the ultimate killing machine, but more importantly to keep them under control. You wouldn’t want a bunch of serial killers getting free rein, now would you? Anathema and all the other students are gearing up for Killslip Day – the one day they actually get to test all their studies and extensive murder techniques. However, Anathema’s world is rocked by an old diary found under her floorboards, and through her interactions with the students and teachers, she comes to a startling realization about who she is and who she wants to be.

Prep School for Serial Killers is an action-packed young adult novel with a unique concept. What if you put a bunch of psychopaths in a preparatory school and teach them to kill? What you get is a student body constantly on edge and a fascinating tale of what it means to be human. I thoroughly enjoyed Tara Platt’s story about a prep school that would normally be filled with mundane and run-of-the-mill teenage hormones, but in this instance is filled with hate, suspense, and a little bit of hope. Tara has built this amazing world and I can’t wait to see what Anathema does if Tara Platt decides to turn this into a series.
