When a little girl turns into a mass murdering nightmare, you know Pretty Hate Machine: Special Task Force: GREEN MAJIK #1 by Don Templeton isn't a fluffy bunnies kind of book. When Detective Jack Carnahan walks into the crime scene and walks out with enough evidence to show that the U.S. government is capable of far greater atrocities, you know this story is one jacked up ride that will stretch your imagination and leave you breathless. Add in a dope-head journalist, a thinking porn star, and a special agent who looks good in her undies mixed with a liberal helping of bad guys, murder, and conspiracy, and you have Pretty Hate Machine in a nutshell.
Pretty Hate Machine: Special Task Force: GREEN MAJIK #1 by Don Templeton is pulp fiction at its best. Templeton does a killer job at creating raw, fast-paced action that leaves the reader hungry for more. His characters are dynamic, and he does a terrific job building tension that will keep you hooked. Templeton's plot is complex and yet easy to follow as what seem to be unrelated events culminate into a satisfying conclusion. On the down side of things, it is easy to tell the author has spent too much time working with the government. Even with the provided list of acronyms, I felt put out trying to figure out what he was saying sometimes. His brief but necessary breaks between action, while still well-written, paled in comparison to the excessively graphic but artistically worded action scenes.
